We cannot predict the future.
However, we can visualize how we wish it to be. Or imagine what it might be. That is aspiration.
Predicting is based on the illusion that we are in control. Preparing arises from humility, and the awareness that we are part of a dynamic system.
Getting attached to the prediction, gives a false sense of certainty. Being prepared, opens us to the possibility of deviations and surprises. Preparation gives confidence that we can find ways to work with unknown and unexpected.
Once we visualize and aspire, we can evolve with the future, become wiser, and be prepared for it to some extent. That is meaningful action.
The future may turn out to be like what we visualized or it may be different. We take it and move on. That is acceptance
To achieve goals that matter, we need to prepare- to Aspire, to Act and to Accept. Coaching can help leaders be prepared to handle uncertainties.
Leaders don't need the ability to predict, they need the ability to be prepared.
