the conversation that doesn't go anywhere

Sunday morning, a few coaches met. The purpose was just to catch up on our lives. There was no outcome in mind.

The conversation wandered - balance, knowing when enough is enough and when to start asking that question, different ways of reading, saying no, setting boundaries, the particular challenges women carry in corporate environments.

There was nothing linear. Nothing that resolved into a "takeaway". No lessons for LinkedIn.

Some conversations are not useful because of what they conclude. They are useful because of what they stir. The thinking that happens in the hours after - that is where the value lives, not in the conversation itself.

I wonder how many leaders allows themselves the space for an unstructured dialogue without an agenda. The one that wanders, covers too much, and ends without a summary.

What role do such dialogues have in creating trust and instilling a culture of conversation ?
